FTPP‑Adipotide (FAT Targeted Proapoptotic Peptide) is essentially a fat‑targeting apoptosis peptide.
It was designed to selectively destroy the blood vessels that feed white adipose tissue, causing fat cells to die off due to loss of blood supply.
What FTPP‑Adipotide Does
Targets prohibitin receptors on the surface of white‑fat vasculature
Delivers a pro‑apoptotic signal to those blood vessels
Causes vascular shutdown in fat tissue
Leads to fat‑cell death (indirect apoptosis)
Results in rapid fat‑mass reduction in animal studies
It’s not a metabolic modulator like AICAR or 5‑Amino‑1MQ. It’s a vascular‑targeting peptide.
Why It Works
White adipose tissue has a unique surface marker (prohibitin) on its blood vessels. FTPP‑Adipotide binds to that marker → enters the endothelial cells → triggers apoptosis → the fat loses its blood supply → the adipocytes die.
This is why it’s sometimes described as a “fat‑killing peptide” rather than a fat‑burning one.
What It Does Not Do
It does not increase metabolism
It does not activate AMPK
It does not mimic exercise
It does not contain amino acids that act hormonally
Its action is direct and structural, not hormonal or metabolic.
Research Context
Originally developed at MD Anderson Cancer Center
Showed significant fat loss in primates
Also showed kidney stress at higher doses
Never approved for human use.
